Black Cowboy is an on-going series of photography, painting and video that also includes “Thug Life” (photography 2001 - 2004) and “What were the skies like when you were young?” (paintings 2013 - present). The series documents the lives of a family of formerly enslaved people who settled the Texas Bayou. The rodeo collection was shot from 2016 to 2018 at the Annual Heritage Day Rodeo hosted by the Black Professional Cowboys and Cowgirls Association (BPCCA) in Humble, Texas. Black Cowboy was printed at Zero Station in Portland, Maine for the exhibition A Distant Holla, presented by the Black Artists Forum at the Abyssinian Meeting House in May 2017.
